Founded in 1998 and based in Nashville, TN, H. Brent Patrick is a partner at Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC focusing on construction law, contract negotiation and drafting, construction litigation, and business and corporate matters. With a Bachelor of Architecture, cum laude, from the University of Tennessee and a J.D. from the University of Memphis, he brings both design and legal perspectives to complex construction issues.
Patrick is admitted to practice before the Tennessee Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. District Courts for the Middle, Western, and Eastern Districts of Tennessee, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is a LEED Accredited Professional; an executive board member and treasurer of the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel; a past board member and treasurer of the U.S. Green Building Council Middle Tennessee Chapter; and a member of the Nashville, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations, including the ABA Forum on Construction Law.
He guest lectures on construction law and contracts at Vanderbilt University’s College of Engineering and has co-authored publications on Tennessee construction law, lien law, change orders, bond claim notice requirements, and state-by-state design and construction contract issues. Clients engage him for practical, industry-informed counsel across the project life cycle.
